One went on a Percussion Plus 8-lug wood snare and the other on a vintage Ludwig 8-lug wood snare with internal muffler. Now I know the Ludwig is worth at least 3x as much as the Percussion Plus, but with this head and correct tuning, you would be hard pressed to tell which is which, as they both sound amazing. I play with brushes a lot, and the pop you can get with this head is perfect. With sticks, I can get the snare to really sing out and take center stage. With the two layered design, I don't have to worry about replacing this head anytime soon.I am using O-rings as well as a little piece of paper towel taped with masking tape to the batter head. I feel it helps reduce the unwanted vibrations produced by the snare drum. Please note, it is crucial to tune your snare drum correctly. Very durable. I really hammer the snare when I play and this is super durable. No problems there.2. GREAT sound. makes any snare sound FULLER and with more PRESENCE. 3. Can be tuned HIGH. That's one of the best things about it. You can really tune it up. I have mine tuned up to a C. John Bonham style. Check youtube for the video on what that is. Search Bonham+snare+tuning. Coated heads are the way to go. I'll be changing all the heads on my kit to coated. |
